Backups Running Smooth

We have now made it 3 consecutive nights with the backup server running for all the blogs on this service.   Not only are we making backups in regular fashion back to this server, we are making backups as well to a couple different servers to make sure the data is backed up properly.    I am pretty stoked how easy it has been and the resources are not dropping on the server even with the large load.    Partly it goes in low priority at non-peak times.

I even did some testing by playing with the sites during the backups.   No problems to report!   All Good!

Server Move and Backup Service

I would like to welcome you to my new blog on my new server domain, trentdv.com !     This blog is dedicated to reporting server issues, scheduled upgrades and explanations for things that happen on blogs and domains on this server.    This is a better way to tell people about things going on, rather than reporting on the Onvertigo Bloggers home page or on my blog.    Partly because no one really cares as long as it works and partly because a blog dedicated to this information is just smart :)

  1. Server Move - So, on with the updates!    We recently completed our server move from dreamhost to media temple (gs) and that went really well!   This was a better fit for the future plans that I have for the server.    What I didn’t foresee is that the move to an upgraded service would happen so quickly!    That is why we quickly moved from media temple (gs) over to our own media temple (dv) dedicated server.     The move gives us “way more” options for delivering a stable and backed up service.
  2. Speed and Delivery - Improvement was also made on the speed delivery and “digg proof” content through a great caching system.   It servers up static versus dynamic content to the majority of visitors and increasing load time of your blog to most people (99%) that visit your blog substantially!
  3. Backup  - is the last thing that we really have improved here!    We are currently running complete weekly server backups to one of our backup servers and daily backups of Onvertigo Bloggers and other domains on the server to a completely different backup server!    We want to have the option to keep your data secure!

We do strongly recommend that you also make your own backups of your blog using your Admin => Manage => Export so that you have a copy of your “specific” data from your blog whenever you want :)
